Ok, this will be a much more difficult choice, as both 1st and 2nd edition Rangers have their perks.  1st edition get the d8's for hit points, and giant class enemies.  2nd edition get the hide in shadows and move silently and d10's.  It really doesn't matter to me which you choose.  When you are making the character, in class write Ranger - 1st edition (2nd edition).
    I have no base advantages or disads for Rangers.  If you have any you wish to ask for you will need both a advantage and disad.  Questions just email me and ask.
